How our Professional Organizers Helped This Senior Get Back to her Artwork

From our first meeting Donna* had a clear vision for her upcoming move. After living in her Edmonton Millwoods home for 25 years, she was ready to transition into a senior living residence. She was ready for less yardwork, home maintenance, and, as an avid watercolor painter, was eagerly looking forward to turning the second bedroom of her new suite into her dedicated art studio.
However, Donna was also awaiting a total knee replacement. While she initially planned to handle a large portion of the decluttering and packing herself, the physical toll and an accelerated timeline caught up with her.
Realizing she had "ran out of steam," she handed the logistics over to the Sort & Simple team. We were happy to step in and make sure Donna reached her target safely and without stress.
The Strategy: A Fast-Track, One-Day Suite Setup
As senior move managers, we know that the secret to a successful senior living transition isn’t just getting the boxes through the door. As we recently shared in our guide to Setting up Senior Living Suites in Edmonton, the goal is to make a new space feel instantly familiar, safe, and functional from the very first night.
Here’s how we helped Donna to reach her goals:
Two-Week Prep: Donna took care of her own decluttering, then entrusted Sondi and I to pack up her treasured “keep items”. While we coordinated her moving day, thoughtful planning went into which furniture would fit best and provide added storage space.
Move Day Efficiency: With our strategic packing completed, on move day Eager Beaver Movers arrived in the morning and had her entire home loaded, moved, and unloaded at her new residence before noon.
The High-Priority Unpack: While Donna went for a long lunch with a friend, Sondi and I went to work. Sondi focused on completely unpacking and organizing the kitchen, while I unpacked the most important room in the house: Donna's art studio!
The Best Part: Right Back to Painting
Instead of spending weeks living among stacks of cardboard box mountains, Donna’s home was fully transitioned in a single afternoon. We unpacked all her boxes, organized her kitchen and set up her art space. We even returned a few days later to hang her favorite artwork on the walls, instantly making the space feel like home.
By the time we wrapped up, Donna didn't just have a place to sleep, she had a home that felt familiar. Instead of exhausting herself unpacking boxes, she was able to put her energy into what she loves most: painting.
Best of all, she had a safe home when it came time to recover from knee surgery.
"I'm loving our new home. Thank you both for all your excellent work. I cannot tell you how valuable you have been in making this the simplest move ever. Talk about stress relief!" — Donna

I happened to be part of a discussion regarding senior move management and the emotional aspect of downsizing when tropica casino was brought up. It led me to this success story about Donna’s transition in Edmonton, and the way it highlights the importance of compassionate, personalized support during significant life changes really stood out. The article isn’t just about the logistics of packing and moving, but about the thoughtful effort required to preserve a sense of home and well-being for individuals during a pivotal time. I expected to skim past it as just another professional organizing blog, but the focus on genuine care and enabling clients to return to their passions, like art, showed it’s something different.
